Coming Around

I have been really enjoying this "unscheduled" period of training. I'm not sure you could really call it training, but I do try to workout most days of the week. I am also glad to say that I have been cycling, swimming, lifting, stretching a lot, and running a little. I am enjoying the variety. The legs are still healing so the running has been slow and easy, but it's a great time to be slow and easy right now. I'm very thankful that Tara has been taking it easy on me Thursday mornings. I would like to get back out to Todd's Road and start chipping away at my 500 miles again. I thought I might be able to do it in 2 years, but I think I have 10 months to go and 225 miles to go. We'll see.

As Tara, Kelty and I were running this morning and talking about ultras and marathons I have to admit that the spark to compete started to ignite once again. The Columbus Marathon tore me down both physically and mentally and since October I have had no real desire to compete in another race again. Good thing I signed up for an Ironman in September. I knew it would come back eventually, but I didn't know how long it would take. Tara had been talking about the Flyin Pig and The Land Between the Lakes Ultra and it did not produce a sense of dread hearing her describe the events and race courses. I will not do either of the races this year because of Wisconsin, but it was a bit exciting talking about other possible races for the future. For now I am going to focus on only 3 races in the upcoming spring/summer/fall season. The Derby Half, the Mountaineer Triathlon, and Wisconsin. I'll try not to get dragged into doing much more than that. At least I can say I am finally a little bit excited about racing again!
